While Microsoft’s plan to open-up the Starfield game to other platforms, PlayStation being one of them, may open up its gaming market, its current failure to gain market share in this region and the upcoming Xbox Series X console’s potential to turn the tide, remain cause for worry for Microsoft.
Starfield, the latest creation from the creators of Elder Scrolls and Fallout, but it can only be played on Xbox consoles and PC. Besides, it is developing the suspicion that Microsoft might make some games restricted for the Xbox consoles just on PC and several more platforms. Addressing the competitive landscape, Phil Spencer, CEO at Microsoft Gaming aired his perspective on the matter.
First of all, we need to create a multi-platform strategy for a successful policy implementation.
On the eve of these rumors, Phil Spencer stated that four of the Xbox first-party ones will float to the top of waterships on PS5 and Nintendo Switch. He was also quick to clarify that for the moment Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle remained unaffected by this change to the strategic positioning.
The purchase of ZeniMax Media and Activision Blizzard King by Microsoft are the examples of Microsoft’s strategic move to ensure that it does not lag behind in Xbox content market, which is filled by many PlayStation exclusive offerings. Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox, was worried that Sony would make Starfield exclusive to PlayStation consoles, following the precedent set with other ZeniMax Media titles such as Deathloop and Ghostwire: The symbolism of attending university, Tokyo.
With Starfield expected to show up on our PS5s, the hype is only expected to escalate even further.
Yet there is a slight difference in view that Starfield would make an appearance of PS5 considering the Xbox’s first-party releases having a very successful initial launch. Not only that, on top of the launch of a heavy-duty hit game like Starfield would surely breathing fresh air into this old game as well as possibly draw new players into the game.
