Apple and the wheels of the Vision Pro digital revolution.
As Ming-Ci Kuo, a known analyst mentions, Apple reduced the Vision Pro headset production to 400,000 or 450,000 units. Instead of 700,000 units which the company abandoned at the beginning. On the other hand, Magna said that some fans of brand were, indeed, concerned that the headset that was meant to change the world of virtual reality won’t be of their standards.
The importance of numbers
But, it is not as simple as it looks because the very idea of the number of helmets produced or sold is not a simple as it seems. A single sock is currently priced at $3,500 apiece. Even so, this counts for 400,000 manufacturing units which is roughly 1$ of our total manufacturer sales value. In 2024, Apple’s iPhone 12 had brought in $30 billion revenue for Apple. As for the financial weight, it turns out that these are just a drop in the bucket compared to the company’s other sources of revenue that amounted to $383 billion in 2023.
A long-term vision
It’s at this stage where one should not lose the grip on the vast possibilities that the Vision Pro has beyond selling of just units. The kinematic reason mentioned could simply be a first instance which would “change the way people see the entire market” as often as how the launch of the iPhone was 12 years ago. The debut of the iPhone set the stage for it to quickly become the new ‘necessary’ product for daily life. This is exactly the yet-to-be demonstrated outcome of the unbooting of its recent virtual reality headset.
Towards a new era?
As an evidence of the challenges involved, the Vision Pro cannot be evaluated only by faults such as weight or user comfort, but, rather, it performs surprisingly well in terms of the user experience. Its prominence is seen not only in its possibility of establishing better ways of doing things but also in its advantage, which indicates that it has some potential. But that doesn’t have to be a good reason to be scared of exponential growth and we believe that wearable computers may evolve to the next level in the near future, as well. Maybe they will kick off a new decade in the history of Apple.
